The Wildwood Sample Floodplain Enhancement project included the design and construction of a stream and floodplain restoration plan to protect this portion of the stream bank and improve the overall watershed quality. Excess nutrients within the stream were addressed by providing additional floodplain storage and settlement areas and increasing plantings within the floodplain and buffer areas directly adjacent to the stream. The enlarged settlement area allows nutrients and other pollutants to separate out and be collected at the debris screening areas for ease of removal from the watershed. Newly established vegetation will assist with bank and floodplain stabilization, significantly reducing the sedimentation due to bank erosion. Additional enhancements to the finished site will include constructing a small educational center and fishing pier for use by local organized groups and community members.
