PVEDI reviewed existing documentation and evaluated remedial alternatives and costs for remediation at this property. The site had a history of heavy manufacturing, since approximately 1925 and was being considered for reuse as an evidence storage facility.Several rounds of investigations were conducted and chlorinated volatile organic compounds (VOCs) were detected in groundwater at concentrations exceeding State standards; at least two fuel storage tanks resulted in significant areas of soil and groundwater contamination.Ultimately it was demonstrated that the chlorinated VOCs originated from the adjacent (up-gradient) State-listed Class 2 Inactive Hazardous Waste Site. PVEDI developed detailed cost estimates which outlined remedial alternatives for fuel storage tanks, soil and groundwater contamination, and a soil vapor extraction system to mitigate any vapor intrusion condition.
